Manners:
The Vietnamese used to greet one another by clasping their hands, prayer-like, in front of their faces and bowing slightly. Unfortunately, this charming custom has been replaced by the handshake. When trying to gain the attention of a Vietnamese, try not to point or gesture excessively. This is regarded as rude. Call out their names if possible, if not beckon in using the whole hand, palm downwards. Again, as in the other countries of Southeast Asia, do not touch people on the head as it is regarded as spiritually the “highest” part of the body. Expect to be the center of attention outside Sai Gon, Hanoi and the main tourist centers. React accordingly and be a good ambassador.
Climate:
Vietnam’s climate is very diverse because the country covers a wide range of the latitudes and altitudes.
The North: The cold season is between November and April when average temperatures are around 150C - 200 C - and its often wet and chilly. In the hot period, between May & October, the average temperature in is about 28 - 39 0 C
The South : The temperatures in the south are constant all year. Ranging from 23 - 35 0 C . The dry season is from November to April and the wet period from May to October.

Currency: US$ is most used and most compatible currency. Euro can be exchanged in most hotels and exchange places for the local currency. In certain cases, it may even be accepted as payment in certain souvenir shops. When paying in cash, the main currency accepted is the dong or the US dollar.
ATM: ATM machines have become increasingly popular in Vietnam (mostly in cities) and have attracted many foreign visitors.
Most banks offer this service and the registration for an account is simple and fast. All ATMs are locally interconnected. However, ATMs only give in VND. Our clients can use the Visa cards & Master cards for ATM machines. But they charge about 4% depend on Bank. Debit Cards can be rarely used by the ATM machine. It depends on the bank.
In Saigon & Hanoi: ATMs are available & accessible in almost super markets, banks, and 4-5 star hotels.
Credit Cards: Major credit cards (such as Visa, Master Charge and to some extent American Express) are increasingly being used, especially in big cities and tourist places, but only in restaurants, hotels or big shopping malls with a transactional fee (3%-5%). It is always advisable to carry enough cash to cover daily purchases.
Direct Payment of Cash: is most popular in Vietnam. Small shops, restaurants and markets usually do not accept any other payment.
Money Exchange: According to the current Vietnamese law, there is no limitation of bringing the money into Vietnam or exchanging money in Vietnam. But bringing the money out of Vietnam is limited to 7000 US$.
Traveller's Cheque: are an easy method of carrying money around, and can be cashed at major banks (but not small banks in small towns).
Exchange Rate : From USD into Vietnam DONG : $ 1.00 into VND 23.300 VND
Electricity:
Electricity in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar is 220 Volts, If you travel to there with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter. Outlets in four countries generally accept 3 types of plug:

Mobile Phone:
In Vietnam, GMS (Global Mobilephone System) is presently operated by three main suppliers: VINAPHONE, MOBIFONE, VIETTELl. Clients' mobile phone could be used there by roaming service. These suppliers offer also VINA and MOBI Pre-Paid Card services. The best way for client to use a mobile phone in the country is to buy a pre-paid SIM card for their mobile phone. There are mobile phone counters at the airports.
SIM CARD PRICE
For the cost of the sim card, it varies on which supplier / package they will use. Here below is the list of 3 main suppliers (good services) with their website telling how much it costs for a sim card and how much they charge for a call (international / domestic call). Please check the following.

VISA THE KEYS TO VIETNAM:
At present, only citizens of few countries can visit Vietnam without entry visa as :
1/ Not more than 30 days: for citizens of Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Laos.
2/ Not more than 15 days: for citizens of Japan and South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland. Germany, France, Spain , England, Italy.
2/ French citizens holding valid diplomatic passports are exempt from visa requirements when visiting Vietnam and are allowed to stay for up 3 months at one time or on several visits within six months since their first immigration dates.
3/ Citizens of Chile holding valid diplomatic or official passports are exempt from needing entry, exit and transit visas in Vietnams territory and are allowed to stay for up 60 days on each visit.
The best practice is to get the visa stamped on your passport before the departure by applying to one of the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate in the world. If you want to avoid a long procedure for a visa to be approved at an Embassy outside Vietnam (from 3 to 6 days), we can arrange to get the visa approved code service for you. After approval, we will send notification (by fax or attached email) to you and fax the approval to your desired Embassy or Consulate, you then just bring your passport to that Embassy or Consulate to get the visa stamp on your passport on the same day.
But in case there is not any Vietnam embassy or Consulate in your country or you just want to visit Vietnam at once on the way you travel, the Visa on Arrival is the solution. The Visa on Arrival is the visa be stamped on your passport at a International airport on your arrival at Vietnam. But this visa only be issued if you applied for it in advance and approved.
